I am really excited about the Google internet app Colaboratory. For the first time, I can envision a community sharing computer ideas and code, without being concerned with whether they are running a Macintosh, Windows 10 or Linux machine. In fact, users of iPads, Surface Go, and Android tablets can join in on the fun.
Colabortory provides a web-based implementation of iPython/Jupyter notebooks. Since it is web-based, an extra level of safety is ensured in sharing programs. The code or its products will not be downloaded to your machine without your permission. Colabortory also implements a “playground” mode where no files are written to your computer or to your google drive.
I have plans to write and publish the following programs to be shared with all:
Mazes, a maze generation “system” for fun, art or storytelling.
Football, machine learning to predict the Super Bowl winner
Fantasy Football, machine learning to improve your fantasy team draft
Image Processing — new “filters” for your photos
Social Barometer — machine learning interpretation of Twitter posts from fans of your local sports team.
If you have other computer program suggestions, please forward them in your comments. To participate in this experiment, you will need a google account with google drive. It’s free to set up that account and join in the fun. drive.google.com
Finally, I promise to provide means for users to inspect all of my source code. Also, I will never offer programs without source, such as byte compiled python .pyc or C executables. I do not want a stranger’s compiled code and neither should you.
